One of my passions is hiking the waterfall trails of Oregon and Washington state, a region known for its incredible cascading waterfalls and scenic vistas. My favorite hikes are those found in Silver Falls State Park and along the Columbia River Gorge. Hiking under and around waterfalls is inspiring in so many ways, and it’s those experiences that inspired my newest fused glass art collection, the Waterfall Ridge Collection. Before I show them off, I’d like to share how this collection started.
The Artist’s Proof and 1st Edition Design

If you follow my posts, you might already know that I start all my designs with tiny test tiles, or Artist’s Proofs. Back in April, I created a waterfall proof (pictured above), and I loved how it came out, but I wanted to lighten it up a bit. So, I decided to make some changes to the colors and glass textures for the design. Making big changes like this means I need to test it again before making a larger piece or collection. So, I created only one small waterfall piece to ensure the design would work well together in a larger format (pictured above). I was so pleased with how this 1st edition turned out – I received so much wonderful feedback from admirers at my Summer and Fall art shows – that I decided to have my husband Dan frame the 1st edition piece, and I created 11 new works of art based on this final design to make up the Waterfall Ridge Collection.
This group of 12 fused glass works of art all include our signature custom-made Kayu Batu wood frames and stands, and each one features a unique and beautiful waterfall cascading down a rocky cliff into a tranquil pool of blue water with iconic Oregon evergreen trees growing on the cliff’s edge. Many of these works of art were made using bits of dichroic glass scattered throughout the white water to add a sparkling effect. A few of them feature bits of amber glass representing fallen trees and logs at the base of the falls, and a couple of them have small rock outcroppings exposed in the center of the falls where I imagined some green ferns and moss might grow.
