July is the peak of lavender season, and with it comes festivals and artists who capture these magical flowers, the farm life, and the wonderful insects who pollinate them. It’s also time for me to refresh my lavender-inspired glass art and gifts. This month (in July), I created the 3rd edition of the Lavender Love Collection so I could release it at Arrowhead Lavender Farm’s annual Lavender Festival. This collection of fused glass art tiles depicts bees surrounded by purple lavender flowers. In addition to the fine art tiles I created, I made a limited number of fused glass lavender flowers for your garden and plants. They were a big hit at the festival, so they are now backordered, but some of the art tiles are still available
To create the bees for this series, I watch and study the bees that pollinate my garden flowers. Each happy little bee is created by hand-cutting tiny pieces of black and yellow sheet glass that are then laid out in the desired shapes until the bees look happy on the design. Once the bees are assembled and tacked to the glass base, I work to surround them in rich purple lavender blooms with sparkling green leaves made of glass “confetti”. The glass frit I use to create this purple color is a combination of Bullseye’s Violet Striker and Gold Purple. The “striking” glass bits are blueish to begin with, but once they reach fusing temperature (over 1400 degrees), they strike and the blue color becomes bright purple. A perfect color for lavender flowers. Let me know which one of these works of art you like best!
